Update 4.11.2024: Article quota for 2024 used up. The negotiations by swissuniversities with Wiley for a new agreement for 2025 are still ongoing. No free Open Access publishing until further notice. Updates are posted here.
Since mid-2021, an agreement with Wiley allows researchers at Eawag, Empa, PSI & WSL to publish Open Access in Wiley hybrid journals without costs for the authors (for agreement details see here). As part of this deal, Wiley set a yearly upper limit on the number of articles that can be published Open Access for free. This article quota for 2024 is expected to be exhausted in the beginning of November 2024. For articles accepted after this date researchers are no longer able to publish Open Access under this agreement until further notice.
The current agreement with Wiley ends on 31.12.2024. The negotiations by swissuniversities with Wiley for a new agreement from 2025 are still ongoing.
Even if the quota has been exhausted, there are still alternatives for Open Access publishing in Wiley hybrid journals. No additional costs are incurred if articles are published «closed access» in Wiley hybrid journals. The accepted manuscript can usually be made available in Open Access in DORA after an embargo period of (often) 12 months. - All you need to do is to submit the accepted version of your article to DORA!
