Swissuniversities and Springer Nature have extended the Springer Compact agreement for three years (as detailed in the press release). The Springer Compact agreement provides access and publishing components to all Springer, Palgrave, Adis journals for an additional three years and an increased annual article quota for OA publishing, that it is expected to be adequate.
Furthermore, the agreement now also includes a publishing component for Nature Research journals. However, there is only a limited number of APCs available per agreement year, which likely won’t be sufficient to cover all publications. This is far from ideal and we hope that this will be better in the next agreement, which admittedly won’t change the situation until 2026.
The Read & Publish agreement has already taken effect since the beginning of the year. For more details, please refer to our dedicated Open Access agreements webpage concerning Springer Compact and Nature Research.
