Quota for Open Access in Wiley journals used up for 2022

Lib4RI

The agreement with the publisher Wiley covers the article processing charges (APCs) for a fixed number of articles per year. This article quota is going to be exhausted by the end of September 2022.

In 2021, Lib4RI entered into an agreement with Wiley that enables authors affiliated to Eawag, Empa, PSI, or WSL to make their articles published in hybrid Open Access journals openly accessible immediately upon publication. However, there is a yearly cap on the number of articles that can be published Open Access without additional payment under the agreement and this cap will be reached by the end of September. After the article quota has been exhausted, (optional) fees for Open Access are no longer covered by the agreement and will be invoiced to the authors. The critical date is the acceptance date of articles. All articles accepted for publication after the article quota has been reached (and before 1 January 2023), are not eligible for free Open Access under the agreement. Free Open Access publishing in Wiley journals will be available again for articles accepted for publication in 2023.

It is still possible to publish articles in Wiley journals as Closed Access articles (i.e. without paying an additional fee for Open Access) and subsequently make the article Open Access in DORA. For most journals, Wiley permits that authors can make the accepted version of articles Open Access in DORA after an embargo period of 12 months. All you need to do for this “green route” to Open Access is to submit the accepted version of your article to DORA!
