We are pleased to announce that the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries has successfully concluded negotiations with Oxford University Press and reached a two-year Read & Publish agreement.

The agreement with the publisher Wiley covers the article processing charges (APCs) for a fixed number of articles per year. This article quota is going to be exhausted by the end of September 2022.

As of December 2022, Lib4RI provides a full subscription to the CAS SciFinder Discovery Platform, including SciFinder-n, Formulus and Analytical Methods. An introductory webinar is planned for the end of January 2023. Details will be announced soon.

As of Monday, 14 November 2022, the user interface of the research platform swisscovery appears in a new layout and offers new functions.

“Open for Climate Justice” is the theme of this year’s International Open Access Week. In celebration of the Open Access Week, we feature a selection of papers by scientists of the four research institutes related to climate change, to highlight the contribution of these outputs to open knowledge and open science.

Since 2021, researchers at Eawag, Empa, PSI, and WSL have the option to publish Open Access articles free of charge in full and hybrid OA journals published by Taylor & Francis. The agreement covers the article processing charges (APCs) for a fixed number of articles per year. This article quota is now exhausted for 2022.

From 24 to 27 October, Lib4RI is celebrating the International Open Access Week with information booths on the main campuses of Eawag, Empa, PSI, and WSL. Library specialists will be happy to discuss any questions you might have about Open Access (OA) and related issues at our pop-up libraries.

Our new Search Tool for articles, books, and journals provides search results from various external sources in a well-organized bento box style. The search for journals does not only indicate coverage availability, but also displays Open Access (OA) publishing information for each journal.

The Swiss Open Access Monitor went live in early September. The analysis of scientific publications shows that Switzerland is substantially advancing towards 100% Open Access (OA). Eawag, Empa, PSI, and WSL are among the Swiss institutions with the highest rate of OA publishing.

After 3 years of webinars with somewhat reduced content we are very happy to get back to Lib4RI’s full on-site training series «Searching & Managing Scientific Information» for PhD students and other interested members of the 4 federal research institutes Eawag, Empa, PSI & WSL.

Starting September 2022, researchers at Eawag, Empa, PSI, & WSL can publish their papers without charge in journals by Open Access publisher Copernicus Publications. Lib4RI has a new agreement with Copernicus to pay article processing charges (APCs) if the corresponding author is affiliated with one of the research institutes of the ETH domain.

A new Lib4RI-Info Sheet about Open Access (OA) publishing has been created for your convenience. It gives an overview of OA publishing options, and illustrates OA services offered by Lib4RI.

Lib4RI provides financial contributions to Open Science services close to the research community and essential to our daily operations. Libraries are becoming increasingly involved in helping sustain these services through initiatives like SCOSS, which helps non-commercial Open Science services build sustainable business models. The national project SwissCOSS co-funded by swissuniversities marks the beginning of our own involvement and we have since contributed to more services available to everyone.

Members of Lib4RI and friends formed a team and participated in this year’s SOLA-Stafette. Last Saturday, the team with the starting number 473 successfully completed the relay!

Much to our dismay, Oxford University Press (OUP) and the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries have not been able to reach an open access agreement for 2022.

Do you need a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for your publication? Lib4RI now issues DOIs on behalf of the four research institutes for documents published by Eawag, Empa, PSI, or WSL.

Our biannual training modules on Searching & Managing Scientific Information usually offered to all affiliates of Eawag, Empa, PSI and WSL will once again be replaced by a webinar miniseries (via Zoom) covering selected topics, this time also including a new session on research data management.

Lib4RI has provided data on Open Access fees paid by the Open Access Publication Fund from 2009 to 2020 to OpenAPC and will continue to support transparency of cost development in the future.

Researchers at the four research institutes Eawag, Empa, PSI, and WSL have more options now than ever to publish their research results Open Access (OA) and free of charge. Several new agreements significantly expand our portfolio of journals, allowing authors to publish their articles OA without having to pay an article processing charge (APC).

Each new year brings changes to our e-journal, e-book and database subscriptions based on pricing, usage, and user feedback. While we maintained our core subscriptions, we added some products and dropped others.

You can now easily create publication lists with articles resulting from your research projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and European Commission (EC) in DORA as we started to enrich the publication metadata with information on project grants.

From the beginning of January to ca. mid-May, the library premises at PSI are being renovated.

In 2021, the negotiations between Oxford University Press (OUP) and the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries concluded without any agreement. The talks will continue in 2022.
